One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Treasure!

This old bench was headed straight for the dump! Sure it had a little rust on it but nothing that a little TLC couldn’t fix! So that’s exactly what I did!

Supplies I used:

*Orbital Sander-I Used 180 Grit

*Rust-oleum Seaside Satin Spray Paint

*Rust-oleum Gloss Clear Coat

I like to use the Rust-oleum Paint+Primer in one spray paint on almost all of my projects.  Of course I chose to paint my bench teal(Seaside Satin) since it’s my favorite color and I use it on dang near all of my projects! Haha! The clear coat comes in matte, gloss, or semi-gloss finishes so you can use whichever you prefer.

There was a lot of loose rust along the seams of the bench so I started off by using my orbital sander to get as much of the rust off as I could.  I then took the piece of sandpaper off of my sander and sanded the hard to reach spots by hand.  It doesn’t have to be perfect by any means but mainly just be sure to get all of the loose pieces of rust sanded down so the paint will stick better and not peel off right away.

I had a cute little helper that wanted to help me sand so of course I took advantage of that!

This is how the seams looked after we got done sanding…as you can see there is still some rust but as long as you have it sanded down to where it is smooth and not loose or bubbled up, you are ready to paint.

This is after 2 coats of paint.  I thought about going back and distressing it a bit, but then decided as it sits outside and weathers it will distress naturally.

Love the design on the back of the bench!  It was a little tricky to paint but it turned out awesome!

Here is the after picture of the seams on the seat of the bench.  What a difference a little paint can make!
