Once you have all of your supplies gathered the first step is to get your stars painted so they can be drying while your doing your next step. I painted my stars red, white, and blue but you could also stain them to give them a more rustic look or even mod podge some patriotic scrapbook paper on them to spruce them up. There is no right or wrong way to do a diy!
Next, while your stars are drying go ahead and get all your ribbon cut to your desired length. My pieces are between 8-9 inches. Again, all of my ribbon came from Wal-Mart except for the red polka-dot burlap which came from Dollar Tree.
After the stars are dry you can go ahead and get them glued on your piece of wood in any order you like.
Pretty easy so far, right? All that’s left to do is to glue on your ribbon. I flipped over my plank and began hot gluing my ribbon on a few pieces at a time. I used 2 pieces of each color of ribbon that I used and am happy with how it turned out. This is how it looked after I finished gluing the ribbon on.
I decided the top was missing something so I decided to take some of my extra blue, trim ribbon and glue a piece across the top to finish it off. This was exactly what it needed!
