The first thing I did was paint my “Love” with my “Snow White” paint and my little wood heart with my “Green Lagoon” paint. I found a pack of these little wood hearts at the Dollar Tree.
Next, I cut a piece of pink burlap and glued that to the center of the heart. I found this burlap at the Dollar Tree in the craft section.
Once I had the burlap on, I then glued the “Love” to the burlap and then added my painted heart to the bottom of that.
To finish it off I made a simple crisscross bow using various ribbons from Hobby Lobby.
I get lots of questions on how I make my bows so I thought I would put a blog post together that has two of my favorite go to bow tutorials.
The first bow that I will be sharing with you is my fluffy bow. You can follow the think below to watch my tutorial. I like to use this bow on bigger projects like porch signs or wreaths.
The next bow that I use quite often is my crisscross bow! This bow is super quick and easy! I promise, even if you think your not a very good bow maker, you will be able to do this one! This is my go to bow for smaller projects. You can also adjust the size of this bow simply by adjusting the lengths of your ribbons or by adding additional pieces of ribbon to the base of the bow.
The first thing I did was wrap my burlap around the top half of my board for the hat. I did fold the bottom inch or so over to make a brim for the hat.
Once I had the hat glued on I took a piece of jute twine and tied a little bow on the top of the hat to bunch it together.
Now, it’s time for the paint! I like to use smaller paint brushes for this. I started with the eyes and worked my way down the face. I used a round spouncer for the rosy cheeks but if you don’t have one you can certainly just use a paint brush to make them.
Once I had my face painted on, I then made a little raffia bow to stick on the brim of the hat.
The first thing I did was add a little white washing to my pallet board. I wanted it to be a little bit brighter so I simply dry brushed it with some white acrylic paint.
Next, I took my Lamb’s Ear wreath that I found at Hobby Lobby and glued that on to my board. I found this mini wreath in the wedding section at Hobby Lobby and it was the perfect fit for this project.
I then took a strip of burlap and glued that down to my board and then glued my “home” onto the burlap to help it stand out against my board.
Now, if you wanted to leave it just like this then you are finished. But…you know me and that I almost always have to add a bow to finish off my projects. So, I added a bow to the top of my hanger to dress it up a bit more. I found this polka-dot burlap ribbon at Hobby Lobby also.
Now do you believe me when I say you can make your own farmhouse decor without having to spend a ton of money? I am in love with this and hope it will inspire you to get creative and make some of your own home decor too!
I’m sure you all think my scrap wood pile is never ending! HaHa! I wish that was the case! I just happened to score big last time I was at my parents place so I am taking full advantage of it and figured why not make a Christmas tree since I just happened to have the perfect pieces to do so.
I started off by painting my pieces as shown in the picture. My longest piece is 11.5 inches, my second piece is 9 inches, third piece is 7.5 inches, and my top piece is 4 inches. Now, like I said this is just what I had laying around so don’t feel like you have to have these exact lengths to make this work! Remember it’s a “scrap wood” project so it does not have to be perfect!
Next I took my bottom board and my third board and traced them on my scrapbook paper. I then cut my paper pieces out and mod podged them on my pieces of wood.
I put one layer of mod lodge on my board and the layer on top of my scrapbook paper. The mod podge will dry clear so don’t worry about that.
Once all of your paint and your mod podge is dry you can take your sanding block and distress your wood if you desire. I of course distressed mine!
Next I hit glued all my pieces together and added my wood star at the top. I found these stars at Walmart in the craft section and knew I had to buy them! They come in a bag of 4 or 5.
It’s cute just like this but I thought it was still missing something…so I added a bow of course! I just used some buffalo check ribbon and burlap I had on hand and made a quick little bow to finish it off! Love how this turned out! I think I’m officially ready to decorate for Christmas! HaHa!
